Don't get me wrong, Ledger played his part really well. but i just dont feel it was upto his part in a Knight's Tale, which allowed him to show off his skill more.
As for his award, lets face it, the only reason he's getting it is because he died. And while he's a great actgor, i dont agree with giving people awards simply because they died.
I wasn't talking about Heath Ledger as the one that deserves an award for his performance (though Heath Ledger's final performance is amazing) and Heath Ledger has yet to earn any awards for that performance. He hasn't been nominated or is "getting" anything yet.
I agree with you that no one should be awarded just because they died, and although there is talk of Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight as a posthumous award, even poeple like Clarke Gable and Natalie Wood and James Dean never had that honor.
I was thinking of a different actor that should at least be nominated for an amazing performace...
Part of the reason Ledger is getting so much praise is because to most normal people (non comic book fans) this Joker is a complete departure, and a shocking one at that. And of course it was his last completed role.
To Batman fans, however, this IS the Joker. Great to see on screen, creepy as hell, too. But not the revelation that I think many saw the performance as.
My feeling is that Ledger did a fine job, but not a remarkable one. I really thought that a great number of talented actors could have played that part just as well, simply because of the tone and content dictated by the script.
Aaron Eckhart blew me away though. If they do a third (and why would we think they won't?) he had damn well better be in it. He was the star of the movie.
Best super hero comic movie ever? I'm having a hard time thinking of a better one...
That's who I was HINTING at in my response. Yes, I want to see more Aaron Eckhart in the next Batman (how can there not be another one?) but I hope they don't sweep him under the carpet...
I really didn't see it as all that to be honest. It was a good movie, and Ledger was great, though i thought he was better in a Knights Tale.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the best movie of the year, but it's certainly up there.
I thought Ledger did a great job, but an award for acting is going to be given, I would reserve it for another actor in that movie...
